While looking at impact wrenches, several people told me they would work with a small compressor and several said they would not.
I bought the Chicago Pneumatic CP7733-2 impact wrench and it worked perfectly with my Porter Cable Job Boss Mod. C3551 air compressor with a tank of 4.5 gallons and is filed 4.4SCFM @ 90PSI (max pressure 150psi). I put the compressor at 90PSI (recommended for the impact wrench) and was able to remove all the wheels of my truck. Ia problem with one leg after removing the other 5 from the wheel, but found that the wheel was at an impasse. Once I Jacked tire completely ground, the pin is out with ease. I then changed the wheels on the vehicle of my father and he very kindly. He seemed to have much power.
A representative of the PC that I spoke with said this was a good key entry-level impact. At one local tire shops, I was little, it seemed they were using the same key impact model. I use mineBut for home use.
During testing I did with the impact wrench and my compressor, I found that when the pressure tank was filled to 150psi, the impact wrench would hammer approx. 20 seconds or so before the air pressure would drop enough that the compressor would need to pump. In general, I find it necessary to let the compressor pump back after all the pins 4 or 5 that I removed. A compressor would be big, but for home use you simply have to stop and leave a smallercompressor to pump up from time to time.
One concern I have is making the legs too tight. I have had the impact wrench set to # 4. After each leg was on, I hit all again very quickly. I then checked the legs with a wrench in his hand and was unable to go further. May I purchase a torque wrench to go with what I do not squeeze too hard especially on alloy wheels. I do not think this particular key is powerful enough to twist a bolt leg off, but I would not recommend lettingimpact wrench with a hammer at their tightening.
